course of our customers.\u00a0 I get asked all the time about the best way to improve websites, what works and what doesn&#8217;t.\u00a0 People are really interested in making sure they are doing everything they can to build a great site fro their visitors.\u00a0 So first thing who is your visitor?<\/p>\n<p>Take a step back for a minute and think about it.\u00a0 Who are the people that are coming to your website?\u00a0 If you already have a website think about the people you know come to it.\u00a0 If not think about the people you hope will come to it.<\/p>\n<p>Websites need to be targeted for their audience.\u00a0 There is little point in writing about handbags for men.\u00a0 Sure some of them might be interested but the vast majority won\u2019t.\u00a0 You need to cater for the people that are interested in what you have to say.<\/p>\n<p>There are tools like Google Analytics which can tell you something about the people that visit your site.\u00a0 However I find that these tools tend to be quite blunt and are designed for sites with 1000 + visitor numbers.\u00a0 That said many people think of them as essential.\u00a0 I think that often all you need to do is think about who currently comes to visit.<\/p>\n<p>For most churches they have some of that information, even if they don\u2019t have a website.\u00a0 It\u2019s simple to think about the people that are in the church and think about what might interest them.\u00a0 For example if you added the church directory to the website people in the church would probably find that useful even if they only used it occasionally.\u00a0 No more scrappy bits of paper to lose or scribble on with the latest update phone numbers.<\/p>\n<p>An easy thing to do is create a list of things that people within the church would like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Church Directory<\/li>\n<li>List of speakers<\/li>\n<li>List of church leaders<\/li>\n<li>Vision and statement of Faith<\/li>\n<li>Upcoming events<\/li>\n<li>Location details<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p>Obviously not an exhaustive list but this only took 2 minutes to think up and I\u2019d be very surprised if the people in your church weren\u2019t interested in at least some of these bits of information.\u00a0 Why not put together your own list just now.\u00a0 Nothing fancy just a rapid list putting down what you think might interest people.<\/p>\n<p>This is the right way to think about a website.\u00a0 You are thinking about the \u201ccustomers\u201d rather than trying to put down a standard set of things.\u00a0 You are thinking about what might interest visitors rather than what you want to tell people.\u00a0 You should always think in this way.<\/p>\n<p>Why not try building your own list right now based on the people you know, you&#8217;ll find it
